Horse Racing – Multiple Bets – How Do They Work
Most race horse fans are acquainted with the simple win and place betting options but find multiple bets confusing/. In this article I want to explain some of the more common multiple bets that are available in your local bookmakers and explain how they work.
First of all I should explain exactly what the term multiple betting means. Quite simply it is any bet that includes two or more horse in different races backed to win or be placed. Some of these bets are straight forward such as a double, two horse backed to win or a treble which is three horse to win. Other are a little more complicated but the most common that you are likely to come across are , the Patent, Yankee, Super Yankee and a Heinz. For the explanations we will assume they are just win bets but it is possible to have each way multiple bets in which case you will have twice as many bets.
The Patent (also known as a round Robin) . This involves 7 individual bets. You back each horse in a single bet to win. You bet each pair of horses to win which are 3 double bets and you have one bet on all three winning. You will get some money back if any of your selections win.
Single Bets Horse One
Horse Two
Horse 3
Doubles Horse One and Two
Horse Two and Three
Horse one and Three
Treble Horse One+ Horse Two+ Horse Three
Yankee. In this bet you select four horses and it makes a total of eleven bets. That consists of 6 double bets, four trebles and a four timer. You need two of your selection to win to get a return and this works out as follows:
Doubles 1 -2 1-3 1-4 2-3 2-4 3-4 Trebles: 1-2-3 2-3-4 1-3-4 1-2-4 $ timer 1-2-3-4
There is also a Lucky Fifteen bet which is a Yankee plus 4 single win bets making 15 bets in all and you get some money back if any one of your selections wins.
.Super Yankee. (also known as a Canadian) This is simply an extension of the Yankee with five selections. This involve 26 individual bets made up as follows
10 doubles - 10 trebles – 5 4 timers and 1 5 horse accumulator.
Again if any two of your horsed win you will get a return.
Heinz (named after the famous 57 varieties). It is a multiple bet that consists of 6 selections and
a total of 57 bets
This is made up of 15 doubles, twenty trebles, fifteen fourfold,6 fivefold an done 6 horse accumulator.
Having a multiple bet I a good way of trying to win large sums for a limited outlay but unfortunately these sort of bets are very much the bookies favourites because they are also the hardest types of bets to win with.
